Less than two weeks ago, a 2-mile wide, 200mph tornado devastated
Moore, Oklahoma. And despite the fact that Oklahoma is tornado country,
many schools didn't even have tornado shelters.
Don't many of us do the same thing, in a sense? We know there's a
chance of something bad happening, but we don't prepare for it. If you
need a nudge, here are four reasons why you should get prepared as soon
as you reasonably can.
Reason #1: Extreme weather is causing unprecedented
destruction
The Moore, Oklahoma tornado was described as more powerful than the
atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. And it's part of a trend of
increasingly powerful tornado activity. (The deadly Joplin, Missouri
tornadoes two years ago were part of the same trend.) Hurricanes are
doing extensive damage, too, of course. Katrina in 2005 ($105 billion in
damage) ... Ike in 2008 ($28 billion in damage) ... Irene in 2011 ($16
billion in damage) ... Sandy in 2012 ($70 billion in damage). We also
have earthquakes, wildfires, and even sinkholes happening with ever
increasing frequency.
If any of these events were to happen in your neck of the woods, would
you be ready to take care of yourself? Or would you have to depend on
the government to help you?
Reason #2: Dust Bowl 2.0 is fast emerging
The American West is drying up. Between drought conditions and high
demand for water, we're in serious trouble. The Colorado River is
running dry. So is Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United
States. And so is the Ogallala Aquifer, which is needed to irrigate
millions of acres of farmland in the Midwest. Within 10 to 20 years, say
some experts, some of these sources may be completely tapped out. In the
near term, crops are failing, livestock are dying, and food prices are
going through the roof. It doesn't look like we can depend on "the
breadbasket of the world" to supply us with food much longer. Will you
be ready to provide your own food supply?
Reason #3: The economy is not recovering
Despite the chirpy reports from talking heads, the economy is not
recovering. Unemployment remains high. College graduates can't find
jobs. One in six Americans is now on food stamps. The few new jobs that
are created pay low wages. The middle class is shrinking fast. Millions
of Americans are underwater on mortgages they can't afford; foreclosures
continue in record numbers. Only those with self-reliance skills are
going to come through with any degree of comfort. Will you be among
them?
Reason #4: Government censorship threatens your access to
even "common sense" information on the Internet
The government recently formed an interagency working group with the
purpose of "countering online extremism." Sure, that sounds good, until
you realize they haven't defined extremism, and they're deliberately
vague about exactly what actions they'll take to counter this alleged
extremism. They have only to utter the words "in the interest of
national security" and they can pretty much squelch any information for
any reason. This is the same government who promoted the idea of an
"Internet kill switch." The same government who has dubbed as "potential
terrorists" anyone who is pro-life, conservative, Christian, or believes
in the U.S. Constitution. Google reports that government requests for
censorship - and the removal of content - continue to rise.
One day soon, you could open up your Internet browser and find that
many of the sites you rely on for important information have
disappeared.
That's why now, more than ever before, hard copy resources like
The Big Book of Off-the-Grid Secrets, are so
important. Every serious prepper should have a copy of this book in his
or her personal survival library.
This
comprehensive reference covers just about everything you need to know
about self-reliance. Section One addresses off-the-grid
gardening, with a focus on food production.
Section Two puts the spotlight on food storage,
including canning, dehydration, and freezing. Section Three covers
self-reliant food preparation. Section Four looks at
homesteading, and Section Five will educate you about serious
off-the-grid issues you won't find discussed anywhere else. Section Six
covers energy, Section Seven covers water,
and Section Eight covers the survival and home defense
issues we discussed earlier. Section Nine covers must-have information
about health, and Section Ten addresses miscellaneous
information that doesn't fit neatly into any category. Finally, Section
Eleven gives you the transcripts of eleven of our most popular
off-the-grid radio broadcasts.
I believe wholeheartedly that everyone should have a copy of this
book on the shelf ... just in case. That's why, if you order your copy
