Oklahoma city switches to single-stream recycling

Bixby, Okla., a suburb of Tulsa, is now offering single-stream curbside recycling to its residents, the city announced.

Under the new one-cart program, provided by Tulsa-based waste management company American Waste Control, residents will be able to use the same bin for trash and recyclables. They will place unsorted, loose recyclables – plastic, metal and fiber, but not glass – in the bottom of the bin, and continue to dispose of trash in bags.

Like a similar program recently implemented in the city of Jenks, Okla., the Bixby program maintains a weekly pickup schedule and comes at no additional cost to residents. Trash and recyclables will be collected in the same truck and the recyclables processed at American Waste Control's recycling facility in Tulsa, which recently underwent a $10 million upgrade.
