Vermont Yankee nuclear plant survives shutdown petition in Supreme Court

The Vermont Supreme Court this week denied a petition submitted by the New England Coalition to force the shutdown of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant, the Brattleboro Reformer reports.

In the filing, the petitioners alleged that plant owner Entergy (NYSE: ETR) violated its authorization to buy the plant issued in 2002, according to the paper, because the company lacked a new “certificate of public good” as of March 21. The issuing of the certificate has been delayed due to “a legislative action that resulted in a lawsuit filed by Entergy against the state,” the Reformer reports.
