Water utility reaches 100 percent reliabilityThe Mesa Water District recently improved its reliability facility and celebrated the achievement of a long-standing goal.
After a two-year improvement process, the Mesa Water Reliability Facility (MWRF) has increased its water treatment capacity, meaning that the district can now serve all of its customers' water needs with local water supplies. The MWRF features a state-of-the-art nanofiltration technology that treats amber-tinted source water caused by an ancient buried redwood forest. In addition to providing 100 percent local reliability to the area's water supply, Mesa Water also has a 100 percent reliable backup supply of import water. This provides several benefits, including lowering the district's energy use and carbon footprint by more than half; keeping the amber water from migrating into the clear water basin; providing for hundreds of years of drought-proof water supply for the service area; and better control of water affordability and quality for customers.
