Columnist and actor Ben Stein, who worked for the Nixon administration during the Watergate scandal on Saturday said that President Obama’s administration is guilty of more than incompetence in the case of the Benghazi attack that resulted in the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

“With great respect to my colleagues, Benghazi is not incompetence,” Stein insisted on Fox. “Benghazi is frank outright malfeasance, lying, criminal cover-up.”

A number of commentators have attempted to draw comparisons between Nixon's Watergate, which resulted in his resignation from the presidency, and Obama's triple dish of scandals now facing his administration.

Stein, a Newsmax contributor, accused the Obama administration of lying to investigators in the eight months since the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya.

A number of prominent Republicans, including Vice President Dick Cheney have charged that senior Obama officials attempted to cover-up the fact that an al-Qaida affiliated group was responsible for the attack to prevent the tragedy from affecting President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.

“There’s perjury and there’s obstruction of justice,” according to Stein. “Those are crimes.”

An attorney, Stein was called upon to write a rebuttal to a charge from a Watergate subcommittee investigating his boss in the early 1970s.

“That charge was that RN and the Republican National Committee had received a bribe from ITT (a large conglomerate) to drop a Justice Department case against ITT for one of its many acquisitions,” recalled Stein in a recent Newsmax article.

“I researched and searched, and called people all over the government, and found that the timeline of events was such that the decision to drop the case against ITT had been taken long before the whole issue of the so-called ‘bribe’ even came up in any way or even before the acquisition was discussed at ITT.”

Stein also said that was the “only charge” against Nixon that was dropped by the committee “and did not make it into the long list of misdeeds he had supposedly committed.”
