NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG) has started commercial operation at its 720 MW Marsh Landing Generating Station located near Antioch, Calif., the company announced.
Bringing the facility online allows the company to immediately retire two units at its Contra Costa Generating Station that relied on once-through cooling, netting nearly 50 MW of power gain. The new plant will use at most 50 acre-feet of water annually, a 99.99 percent decrease from Contra Costa’s maximum annual use, NRG stated in a release.
Marsh Landing also uses fast-start technology that will support the integration of new renewable energy sources, according to the company.
