Hayden: Few Good Options for the US in Syria
In an exclusive interview with LIGNET, former CIA Director General
Michael Hayden says based on publicly available information, his
instincts are that some chemical weapons were used in Syria. He believes
they were almost certainly used by the government in a limited way.
However, Hayden expressed sympathy with US policymakers concerning Syria
because, “there are not really many good choices available to them.”

Eurozone Rate Cut Alone Will Not Lead to Recovery
While the European Central Bank (ECB) cut its benchmark interest rate to
deal with the eurozone’s persistent economic troubles, its influence
remains limited. The EU's struggling economies continue to be averse to
lending, thereby depriving cash-starved businesses of much needed funds
and hampering a recovery.

Malaysia on Track to Become
High-Income Country by 2020
Despite a contested result, with the opposition accusing the ruling
party of fraud, last week’s parliamentary elections in Malaysia are
likely to keep the country on the path of rapid economic development and
on track to enter the high-income category of nations by 2020. The
challenge for Najib Razak, or whomever succeeds him as prime minister,
will be to heal the ethnic divisions and eliminate the injustices that
threaten the stability of Southeast Asia’s third-largest economy.
