US year-to-date coal production down 6.1% through Saturday: EIA

US coal production totaled about 18.9 million st in the week that ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.

This production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 2.2% higher than the previous week's estimate and 4.6% above output in the comparable week in 2012, EIA said.

Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 8 million st in the most recent week while output west of the Mississippi totaled 10.8 million st, the agency said.

US year-to-date coal production totaled 368.5 million st through Saturday, 6.1% lower than output in the comparable period in 2012, EIA said.
