A New Experience for Me and for 120,000 Fellow Americans

Yesterday I tried something completely new. Through an experimental tool on Facebook, I held a live question and answer session to talk about my new book, Breakout. The results were amazing.

During 90 minutes we had 2,400 questions or comments. So far, more than 120,00 people have looked at the conversation we held.

There were some great questions on topics like Obamacare, Congress, the Tea Party, fixing our education system, the 2012 election, the 2014 and 2016 elections, and many more.

It was a two-way conversation that revealed both great frustration with Washington, which seems impervious to change, and great optimism about America, where lots of exciting things are happening every day.

It is clear there is a lot of anxiety about Obamacare. Many people asked questions about how we can repeal it. But I noted that it’s equally important to replace it with a much more transparent system that speeds breakthroughs in personalized healthcare and regenerative medicine. That is one of the most important sections in Breakout.

In fact, the entire idea of holding a question-and-answer session with tens of thousands of people online was the perfect way to introduce the Breakout concept. It is a book about opportunities for improving the lives of every American that simply weren’t possible even ten years ago--breakthroughs like individualized learning, personalized medicine, virtually limitless supplies of energy, and even self-driving cars.

It was thrilling to share these ideas with tens of thousands of people in a genuine conversation over Facebook. It would take weeks to address that many people in town hall meetings and lecture auditoriums, and the discussion would not have been as rich or inclusive as we had yesterday in 90 minutes on Facebook.
