Ode to the Garbage Man

If you ever doubt that the garbage man is the most important person in your community, just take a look at what happens when he doesn't come around for a couple weeks.

Life's tough enough without having to wind your way through a sea of trash, and nobody knows that better than your dear old liver. You see, your body may be a temple, but your liver is the outhouse, working day and night to pull dangerous toxins out of your body. And when it stops working, you can bet you're going to start feeling like garbage pretty quickly.

If you know anyone who has ever suffered from liver cancer, you know how gruesome it is. Imagine spending your days bloated, nauseous, and an unlovely shade of jaundice yellow. And that's BEFORE the chemo starts.

If you want to dodge liver cancer for good, researchers say it might be time to stop looking at that long line at Starbucks as a pain in the butt, and start seeing it as a thing of beauty instead. Because if you wind your way through it often enough, you could cut your risk of liver cancer nearly in HALF!

In a new study, just published in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Italian researchers found that drinking a regular cup of joe could be all it takes to drop your risk of hepatoceullar carcinoma, the most common type of liver cancer, by a jaw-dropping 40%.

And the news only got better from there. If you don't mind guzzling three cups of coffee a day -- and I'm right there with you -- you may be able to slash your liver cancer risk by more than 50%!

If you've been reading e-Tips for a while, I'm guessing you may already have a regular coffee habit. That's because we've told you plenty of times before that a daily dose of java could help you stave off diabetes, prostate cancer, and even brain tumors!

And if you're looking for even more proven ways to naturally beat cancer, check out William L. Fischer's groundbreaking classic How to Fight Cancer & Win, brought to you by our affiliates at Agora Health Books. In it, you'll find the success stories of real people like you who've managed to sidestep cancer, simply by tuning out the mainstream and tuning in to the blacklisted cures Big Pharma hoped we'd NEVER hear about!

Yours in good health,

African herbal remedy makes joint pain disappear

Q: I'm 72 years young and am proud to say I don't take any prescription drugs. My parents swore by herbal cures, and I've had a lot of success with them, too. Unfortunately, the arthritis in my fingers has gotten pretty bad, and I haven't found anything that's working for me yet. What do you recommend?

Dr. Wright: I'm glad you have had such luck with herbal remedies (so have I!), and I have one more that I think will be worth considering. Devil's claw, a plant that grows throughout southern Africa, has more than a quarter century of clinical trials proving that it provides significant and lasting pain relief.

Before Vioxx was removed from the market, a randomized, double-blind pilot study of patients suffering from acute back pain compared Vioxx to an aqueous devil's claw extract. Over six weeks, 88 patients received either devil's claw (extract containing 60 mg harpagoside, the active ingredient in devil's claw) or Vioxx (12.5 mg). Twice as many patients in the devil's claw group were pain-free at the end of the study compared to the Vioxx group.

An uncontrolled postmarketing surveillance study of one devil's claw formula found that patients taking a daily dose of 2.4 g of an aqueous extract (containing 50 mg harpagoside) experienced a 22.9% reduction in arthritis pain after 12 weeks. Another similar study of devil's claw containing 60 mg/day harpagoside showed that the worse the initial pain, the more relief devil's claw seemed to offer.

Devil's claw is affordable, widely available, and backed by years of reputable science. Remember, it can take several weeks to work.
