US coal production up 1.7% on year in week ended Saturday: EIA

US coal production totaled about 19.1 million st in the week that ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.

The production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 1.5% higher than the previous week's estimate and 1.7% above output in the comparable week in 2012, the agency said.

Production east of the Mississippi River totaled 7.9 million st while output west of the Mississippi totaled 11.3 million st, EIA said.

Meanwhile, US year-to-date coal production totaled 803.1 million st through Saturday, 2.1% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2012, it said.
