Bisconti Research Nuclear Energy Institute poll research Americans U.S. nuclear majority

A poll from Bisconti Research says that a majority of Americans still think nuclear energy will be an important means of meeting the nation’s future electricity needs. The poll was commissioned by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI).

The poll shows that 82 percent of Americans believe that nuclear energy will be important to the country’s future electrical needs, while 85 percent said they think nuclear’s importance in meeting U.S. electricity needs will increase or remain the same, with half saying more reactors will be needed.

According to the survey, 69 percent of Americans favor the use of nuclear, while 29 percent are opposed. Three-fourths of those polled say electric companies should prepare now so that new nuclear plants can be built if needed in the next decade.

Out of the respondents, 77 percent say that U.S. nuclear power plants are safe and secure, a four percentage point increase from last February.
