Victim opens fire on armed robbery suspects
NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- An armed robbery victim turned the tables on the three men who targeted him outside a South Florida night club when he chased after them with a firearm, authorities said. According to police, the victim was standing next to his vehicle outside the parking lot of Dean's Gold, a gentlemen's club located at 2355 N.E. 163rd St. in North Miami Beach, around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities said an armed man approached the victim, who was waiting for his wife, and demanded that he remove his money and jewelry. Fearing for his life, he handed over all his valuables. The suspect then got inside a car with two other men inside and fled northbound on Biscayne Boulevard. Investigators said the victim notified security at the nightclub that he'd been robbed and then got into his car and followed the suspects while he called 911. Both vehicles traveled about 30 blocks north of Dean's Gold. A passenger inside the car noticed they were being followed, and one of the subjects pointed a gun at the victim, who then reached for his own firearm and exchanged fire with the suspects. The subjects lost control of their car, struck another vehicle that was traveling northbound on Biscayne Boulevard. Surveillance video captures the moment when their sedan struck a light pole and got stuck on a curb at an Aventura Mobil gas station, at 19055 Biscayne Boulevard. The three suspects are then seen attempting to remove their vehicle from the curbside to no avail. According to North Miami Beach Police Sgt. Jason Ochoa, the subjects then took off running. "All three subjects bailed out of the vehicle," he said. Police arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and searched for the men. "With the assistance of Aventura Police Department, Miami-Dade Aviation, Miami-Dade Police Department and North Miami Beach Police Department, a perimeter was quickly established." Authorities apprehended one of the suspects. "One of the subjects was located by Aventura's K-9 unit," said Ochoa. "That subject was immediately taken into custody and the firearm was located." The two other suspects remain at large. No one was hurt. If you have any information on this robbery, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
