Snowden leaks honored by Polk Awards

Glenn Greenwald and The Washington Post's Barton Gellman are among those who will receive George Polk Awards for their reporting on the Edward Snowden documents, Long Island University announced Sunday.

The Guardian’s Laura Poitras and Ewen MacAskill will also be honored for their reporting on Snowden's National Security Agency leaks.

The award for national reporting will go to the Post's Eli Saslow, for his work on poverty and food stamps, while his colleagues Rosalind Helderman, Laura Vozzella and Carol Leonnig will be honored for political reporting and their investigation into the gift controversy involving former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

Shawn Boburg of the Bergen Record in New Jersey will be awarded for his reporting on the George Washington Bridge lane closures in Fort Lee that have embroiled Gov. Chris Christie in a scandal.

The New York Times will receive three Polk awards, among them one for Andrea Elliot's expansive "Invisible Child" piece on a young homeless girl.

The team behind the PBS documentary "A League of Denial," about the NFL’s efforts to quash evidence linking head injuries suffered by players to brain disease, will also be honored.

The awards ceremony will be on April 11 in New York. The complete list of winners is here
