Study Says Original 2014 Ethanol Goal Is Attainable Through Higher Blends
Renewable Fuels Association, January 24, 2014
The original volumetric target of 14.4 billion gallons of ethanol for
the 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard is attainable via increased consumption
of E15 and E85, according to a new study by Informa Economics. The study
takes a closer look at likely consumption, finding that ethanol
consumption in 2014 could be at least 13.7 billion gallons, compared to
the EPA’s assumption of 13.0 billion gallons. It points toward E85 as a
major contributor, accounting for most of the potential for expanded
consumption. The study shows that if the RFS is left alone to work as
Congress intended, the so-called E10 blend wall can be overcome. The
Informa analysis was commissioned by the Renewable Fuels Association and
Iowa Corn Promotion Board.
