Report: Global wind power installations increased by 42% in 2014

Global wind power installations grew 42 percent year-over-year, according to a new report conducted by BTM Consult, a subsidiary of Navigant Research.

The World Wind Energy Market Update 2015 reported that China, Germany, and the U.S. led a record year for wind installations, with the U.S. experiencing significant growth in 2014. Second-tier countries include Brazil, Turkey, France, and Canada.

“The wind power industry achieved a record year of installations in 2014, setting the stage for steady growth in the coming years,” said Jesse Broehl, senior research analyst with Navigant Research. “The
industry’s development is being bolstered by key established markets and increasingly supported by new and diversified global markets.”

Booming U.S. and German markets caused a shake-up in the top 10 global wind turbine suppliers in 2014, the report said. Vestas remained the top supplier, while Siemens (NYSE: SI) moved two positions to second place.

Additionally, the report includes an analysis of changes in the industry that have occurred in the last 3 years, and global market forecasts through 2019.
