Construction on
Egypt’s first nuclear power plant is scheduled to start
in mid-2016.
The first of four phases calls for two
nuclear power plants with a capacity of 950 to 1,600 MW
each, according to The Cairo Post. Russia, China and South
Korea are in the running to win a tender for the first
phase, though Russia and Egypt signed a memorandum of
understanding in February to build a nuclear power plant.
According to the report, the Egyptian government allocated
land to build a 55-kilometer-square plant, but construction
has not proceeded since then.
