Chelsea Clinton Plans to Stay on Board of Family Foundation

Clinton Health Access Initiative might also continue to accept foreign government and corporate funding

Chelsea Clinton plans to stay on the Clinton Foundation’s board of directors, according to a new report.

Clinton Foundation spokesman Craig Minassian confirmed the former first daughter’s intentions, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday evening.

“[Chelsea] is committed to ensuring that those benefiting from the foundation’s work will be able to continue receiving that often life-changing help,” a spokeswoman for Clinton said in a statement, adding that Clinton hopes to “steward the implementation of changes” on the charitable organization’s board, including “new fundraising policies.”

The Journal said it remains unclear if Clinton would alter her fundraising practices concerning her family’s organization should her mother, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, become president.

The Clinton Foundation’s largest project may also not follow its parent group’s change in fundraising guidelines, the newspaper said.

The Clinton Health Access Initiative may keep accepting corporate and foreign donations, unlike the Clinton Foundation itself, the Journal said. A spokeswoman for the Clinton health program said Wednesday that the group, which has its own board of directors, will convene soon and decide its next steps.

Former President Bill Clinton announced Monday that he would step down from his family’s charitable organization should his wife win.

Reports emerged last week that the Clinton Foundation would no longer accept corporate and foreign donations in the event of a Hillary Clinton victory. Under the proposed changes, the family’s charitable group would only accept donations from U.S. citizens and independent charities.

Critics say the Clinton Foundation could become a conflict of interest for Hillary Clinton if she enters the Oval Office next January.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday urged the foundation to close its doors now.

“What they were doing during 'Crooked Hillary’s' time as secretary of State was wrong then, and it is wrong now,” he said in a statement.

“It must be shut down immediately. It is now clear that the Clinton Foundation is the most corrupt enterprise in political history."
