Do you live or work near a nuclear power plant?
On Aug. 4, the Pennsylvania Department of Health will distribute free potassium iodide tablets for residents who live or work within 10 miles of the Peach Bottom and Three Mile Island nuclear plants.
Secretary of Health
Karen Murphy said the tablets "can help protect the thyroid
gland against harmful radioactive iodine" during
emergencies, but cautioned residents to use them only "when
told to do so by the governor or state health officials."
Employers can contact the Department of Health at 1-877-PA-HEALTH to make arrangements to pick up tablets for their entire workforce.
The tablets will be available between 2 and 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at these distribution sites:
For Peach Bottom, East Drumore Township Building, 925 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville.
For TMI, Masonic Village, Freemasons Cultural Center, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown.
