Ted Cruz Lashes Out at Supporters of “Anti-Science” GMO Free Movement

While millions of people still don’t really take the time to stop and think about where their food comes from, genetically engineered crops are a big deal in Washington – enough so that the United States actually threatened other countries with retaliation should they refuse the crops according to Wikileaks.

With all of the Big Agribusiness money flowing through Washington, D.C. these days it should comes as no surprise that many of the top candidates for president are pro-Monsanto and pro-GMO, including Ted Cruz, who spoke in favor of the crops at an Iowa Agricultural Summit this past Saturday.

Cruz said that Americans should push back against the “hysteria” happening these days against GMO crops, saying that the technology benefits people both at home and abroad, according to this report by The Washington Times.

He called people supporting the natural food and GMO-free movements proponents of “anti-science zealotry.” However as usual Cruz is ignoring the hundreds of independent studies that raise serious red flags about GMO safety, using the familiar “anti-science” refrain that Monsanto PR campaigns have gotten behind (let’s keep in mind that Monsanto never would have passed the initial testing phase without an assist from “de-regulation expert” George Bush Sr. as this video shows).

Along with Cruz, several other candidates have made their viewpoints known on GMOs. Hillary Clinton is perhaps the most pro-GMO of all, having hired a former Monsanto lobbyist to help run her campaign for president.

Jeb Bush is also pro-GMO and against mandatory labeling (even though 90% of Americans routinely vote for it), and even Rand Paul spoke out against mandatory GMO labeling in 2015, shocking many of his supporters.
