Facts about California's last nuke plant that's set to close

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California's last nuclear power plant will close by 2025 under an agreement that will replace production with energy sources that don't produce greenhouse gases. Here are some facts about the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant:

— Operated since 1985 by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.

— Located near Avila Beach along the central California coast.

— Contains twin reactors that are licensed until 2024 and 2025.

— Produces about 2,300 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 3 million homes in Northern and central California.

— Sits near two earthquake faults. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and PG&E have said the plant is built to withstand a magnitude-7.5 quake, the maximum considered possible for the site.
