Donald Trump is struggling to find popular entertainers willing to perform at his inauguration, but at least attendants will be treated to free weed. An advocacy group instrumental in legalizing marijuana in Washington, D.C. now plans to distribute 4,200 joints while parading towards the inauguration on Jan. 20, reports WTOP.com. DCMJ founder Adam Eidenger, who helped in the success of 2014’s Initiative 71, plans to have thousands of legal cannabis supporters light up their free joints four minutes and 20 seconds into Trump’s inaugural speech. “We have to give away marijuana at the inauguration, we have to encourage people to use marijuana during his speech,” Eidenger told WTOP. “If you do it at four minutes and 20 seconds into his speech people will know when they smell it that it is a demonstration for marijuana reform.” The giveaway is designed to raise awareness for cannabis legalization since many advocates remain uncertain regarding the administration’s ambiguous stance on the issue. While Trump has expressed his support for state’s rights on legislating marijuana prior to his election, his choice for Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, stated in a 2016 senate hearing that “good people don’t smoke marijuana.” “We are forced to do this type of publicity stunt because the Trump administration hasn’t mentioned marijuana once since he was elected,” Eidinger told the Washington Times. “It reminds people that the public wants change, and the politicians aren’t doing it.” |
