EPA, Army Corps Propose Repeal of Clean Water Rule
Jun 28, 2017
By Editors of Power Engineering The U.S Environmental Protection agency and the Army Corps of Engineers have unveiled a joint proposal that would repeal the Clean Water Rule, Reuters reported. The two agencies are seeking to replace the rule, updated in 2015 under the Obama administration, with language that was previously in place. The rule changed the Clean Water Act to more broadly define what waterways are regulated by the federal government. The act was originally passed in 1972 and amended in 1987. "We are taking significant action to return power to the states and provide regulatory certainty to our nation's farmers and businesses," EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said. A federal appeals court placed the rule on hold in 2015. EPA officials announced in April the agency would stay and reconsider the revised Clean Water Rule. The agency is also in the process of reviewing the Clean Power Plan.
