Rabbi Lapin: Women need men, but fish still don’t need a bicycle
No stranger to controversy or making politically incorrect statements, this week, Rabbi Daniel Lapin talked about “What makes women miserable.”
Rabbi Lapin started off by reminding his audience of Australian writer and feminist, Irina Dunn’s famous line, “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”
While readily admitting that he loved the expert and evocative phrasing, he pointed out that, in reality, this is untrue.
“One of the things that makes women really miserable is not having a man, but not only is it a man — it’s a strong and masculine man. That is something that brings genuine happiness to women,” Rabbi Lapin proclaimed.
He was quick to add that the converse is also true: that men need feminine women. He pointed out that we see this regularly in life: opposites attract, and differences are necessary to function and flourish.
“The chinese spoke of Yin and Yang, the idea again of the importance of contrast, the importance of the creative tension that comes from opposites, and exactly the same way that men need a feminine woman in their lives, women need a masculine man in their lives,” Lapin said.
