SHAWINIGAN, Oct. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Quebec Distribution tabled its 2005-2010 Energy Efficiency Plan today for approval by the Regie de l'energie. Hydro-Quebec Distribution's investments under the plan will reach $1 billion, or 4 times more than the previous plan. "All in all, our customers will save close to $1 billion on their electricity bill between now and 2010 with the implementation of this plan," said Andre Caille, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro-Quebec.

"By 2010, Hydro-Quebec Distribution and its customers will save 3 TWh, or the equivalent of 1.5 times the electricity consumption of all households in the Mauricie region," said Andre Boulanger, President of Hydro-Quebec Distribution. "The energy saved is about the same as the quantity of wind power that will be produced in the Gaspe Peninsula under the call for tenders announced three weeks ago," added Boulanger.

"Energy efficiency is everyone's business. That's why we're increasing our awareness-raising efforts to encourage people to make purchases and investments that support the achievement of our target when renovating or when purchasing appliances and equipment," said Boulanger. Hydro-Quebec Distribution will also step up its consultation efforts with energy players and customers through the implementation of mechanisms for ongoing consultation.

Hydro-Quebec's Energy Efficiency Plan will be filed with the Regie de l'energie and will be the subject of public hearings in the coming months.
